Summary

Casey knows the truth. But it won’t set her free.

Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to the police; they’ve failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.

But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him as damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, the details of the murder aren’t adding up.

Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?

Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices: the girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer … or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

My Review

This was my first Christian mystery and thriller, and it was such a pleasant surprise. I fell into the story right away and stayed completely absorbed from beginning to end. I listened to the audiobook, and although the narrator was not my favorite, the plot itself had an energy that kept me pressing play. I needed to know what would unfold next. The pace never slowed, and the tension stayed high throughout the entire story.

The story follows Casey Cox, who runs after finding her close friend dead. Her DNA is all over the scene, and she knows she has been framed, so she takes off before anyone can pin the crime on her. Dylan Roberts, a former war veteran and a friend of the victim, is hired as a private investigator to track her down. As he digs into the evidence and learns more about Casey, he realizes that nothing about the case feels quite right. If she is innocent, then why did she flee?

I really enjoyed this cat-and-mouse game and loved spending time with both Casey and Dylan. The dual POV added depth and helped build the suspense because I could follow each character’s internal struggle. I kept trying to piece together the truth, and the story surprised me more than once. There is far more happening than a simple chase, but I will leave the discoveries to new readers.

The gentle threads of faith and redemption were another highlight. They were woven in with a light touch that felt sincere rather than overwhelming. Since this is a Christian story, there is no language, no spice, no graphic content, and no harsh violence, which I truly appreciated.

This is the first book in a trilogy, and I am absolutely continuing this series. I need to see where this journey goes, and I am excited to read more from this author. Definitely recommend!!
