Dashing Through the Snow
by Debbie Macomber

Summary
Ashley Davison, a graduate student in California, desperately wants to spend the holidays with her family in Seattle.
Dashiell Sutherland, a former army intelligence officer, has a job interview in Seattle and must arrive by December 23.
Though frantic to book a last-minute flight out of San Francisco, both are out of luck: Every flight is full, and there’s only one rental car available. Ashley and Dash reluctantly decide to share the car, but neither anticipates the wild ride ahead.
At first, they drive in silence, but forced into close quarters, Ashley and Dash can’t help but open up. Not only do they find they have a lot in common, but there’s even a spark of romance in the air. Their feelings catch them off guard—never before have either been so excited about a first meeting.
But the two are in for more twists and turns along the way as they rescue a lost puppy, run into petty thieves, and even get caught up in a case of mistaken identity. Though Ashley and Dash may never reach Seattle in time for Christmas, the season is still full of surprises—and their greatest wishes may yet come true.
My Review
This was not my favorite Christmas story by this author, but it was undeniably cute and genuinely made me smile. I listened to the audiobook, which came in at just over four and a half hours and felt even shorter when sped up. I ended up finishing it in one sitting. There is no spice and no strong language, making it an easy and cozy holiday listen.
The premise is definitely cheesy and a little goofy, but if you are in the mood for a quick, fun Christmas love story, this one delivers. It has strong Planes, Trains & Automobiles energy mixed with the banter and charm of When Harry Met Sally. The result is a light, fluffy holiday romcom that never takes itself too seriously. The story moves quickly, with plenty of twists, turns, and surprises to keep things entertaining. It is very predictable, but in a comforting way. I also absolutely loved the puppy, Little Blade, whom Ashley adopted. He easily steals the show.
I also watched the Hallmark movie adaptation this year, which was exactly what you would expect from a cheesy Christmas romcom. Some changes were made for the screen, which I understand, but I preferred the book overall. I was not a fan of how the movie altered Dash’s role by making him part of an FBI task force chasing a so-called “criminal.” I much preferred the book’s approach, where Dash is just as in the dark as the audience. That said, the movie was still cute, short, and festive. The actors did a great job, and the puppy was just as adorable on screen. If you have only seen the movie, I highly recommend reading the book. If you have already read the book, the movie is optional, though still a pleasant holiday watch.
If you enjoy grumpy/sunshine romances, road trips, funny hijinks, and an irresistibly cute puppy, this Christmas travel romance is a great pick. It is light, charming, and perfect for getting into the holiday spirit. Definitely recommend!
