Summary

Maggie inherited a gift from her time-crossing parents that allows her to live three separate lives in 1861, 1941, and 2001. Each night she goes to sleep in one time period and wakes up in another. Until, that is, she turns twenty-one, when she will have to forfeit two of those lives–and everyone she knows in them–forever.

In 1861, Maggie is the daughter of an influential senator at the outbreak of the Civil War, navigating a capital full of Southern spies and wounded soldiers. In 1941, she is a Navy nurse, grappling with her knowledge of the future when she’s asked to join a hospital ship being sent to Pearl Harbor. And in 2001, she’s a brilliant young medical student, fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon, yet unable to use her modern skills in her other paths.

While Maggie has sworn off romance until she makes her final choice, an intriguing man tugs at her heart in each era. The mysterious British gentleman. The prickly, demanding doctor. The charming young congressman. She’s drawn to each man in different ways, only complicating the impossible decision she must make, which looms ever closer.

With so much on the line, how can Maggie choose just one life to keep and the rest to lose?

My Review

Gabrielle Meyer has done it again with this sequel! After devouring the first book in the series, I couldn’t wait to dive into this second installment—and it exceeded all my expectations. If you’re new to the series, I highly recommend starting with book one, as this is a journey best experienced in order.

This time, Maggie’s story takes an even more fascinating turn as she navigates three historical time periods, each with its own challenges, families, and potential love interests. The intricacies of each timeline are stunningly crafted, and you can feel how much research went into making every era feel authentic and alive. The interactions with historical figures were a delightful touch, adding layers of depth and realism.

The clean and uplifting storytelling is a highlight—no language or spice, just a beautifully written, faith-filled narrative. Maggie’s decisions about which path to choose, including which love interest she truly belongs with, had me glued to the pages. I was completely invested in her journey and found myself constantly questioning what I would do in her shoes.

The plot twist in the middle left me stunned—I didn’t see it coming at all! It was a brilliant surprise that kept me hooked until the very end. Meyer’s ability to weave suspense, romance, and historical detail together is truly masterful.

What struck me most was the underlying message of faith. Maggie’s story isn’t just about time travel; it’s about learning to trust the process, to have faith in yourself, and to step forward even when the future feels uncertain. It’s a reminder that sometimes God’s plan requires us to take the first step toward our destiny.

This book is gripping, immersive, and thought-provoking. From start to finish, it’s an all-consuming read that will keep you up late, dying to know how Maggie’s impossible decisions play out. The ending felt perfect, wrapping up exactly as it should.

This book is another masterpiece in this incredible series. If you love time travel, rich historical settings, unforgettable characters, and inspiring faith elements, you won’t want to miss it! Highly recommend!
