Summary
Practically perfect, in every witch way…
From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Rewitched…
Annie Wildwood is practically perfect in every witch way. Her life is a haze of pink, magic and impossibly high standards. But, when she is tasked with mentoring a troubled teenage witch with extraordinary powers, Annie’s charmed existence is quickly thrown into utter chaos…
Set in the same enchanting world as Rewitched, Uncharmed celebrates found family, unconditional love and the joy of swapping perfectionism and people-pleasing for being your true magical self.
My Review
After giving Rewitched five stars, I knew I had to read this author’s next book. I was not disappointed. This story is enchanting, whimsical, and full of magic. It takes place in the same universe as Rewitched, but it is a prequel. However, you don’t need to read the first book to enjoy this one. You can read it as a standalone without missing anything.
I listened to the audiobook again and was happy to hear the same narrator. She is wonderful and brings so much warmth to the story. Like the previous book, there is no profanity and no spicy scenes. The romance is sweet and closed-door, which I really appreciated.
This time, we follow Annie, a witch who struggles with perfectionism and people pleasing. I related to her so much and loved the way her personal growth unfolded. The story is filled with heartfelt messages about self-worth, learning to trust yourself, not caring what others think, and embracing your flaws.
Annie is summoned by her witch council to mentor a teenage witch whose magic is not working the way it should. Annie and Maeve are sent to stay together in a cozy cottage in the woods. The catch is that the cottage belongs to a grumpy warlock who becomes our love interest. The dynamic among the three of them is incredible. You get the angsty teen, the “perfect” witch, and the grouchy warlock forming a delightful found family. Their scenes together made me laugh, smile, and even tear up.
Like in the first book, the emphasis is on personal growth and self-discovery. The romance stays in the background, but it still makes my heart flutter and keeps a smile on my face.
Annie also works at a bakery, and I adored every food description. I was constantly craving warm pastries and autumn treats while I listened.
I enjoyed the side characters as well. Some familiar faces make an appearance, and there is even a fun cameo from Rune that made me grin. Every character feels full of heart and kindness.
If you love cozy witchy fantasies with a strong found family element, uplifting personal development themes, comforting food descriptions, and a sweet, grumpy/sunshine romance, this book is a must-read. I am officially hooked on this author and cannot wait to see what she writes next. Highly recommend!!
