Summer Ever After

Summary

Falling in love is easy. Finding the right guy to spend happily ever after with… that’s the hard part.

But I have a foolproof plan. I’m taking the tropes that work in romance books and applying them to my love life.

Only one bed? Never fails.

Caring for someone when they’re sick? A classic.

“Who did this to you?” Seals the deal every single time.

So long, loneliness. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

But the more I try to force romance, the more feelings naturally progress with the one man who’s off limits: Walker Collins, the guy I’ve had a secret crush on since 7th grade, not to mention my best friend’s older brother.

Dating Walker crosses BFF lines I swore I’d never cross. Plus, he hates Sunset Harbor, and his pro golf career will take him off the island as fast as he came, sending me back to the land of singlehood, loneliness, and broken hearts.

At the end of the day, I don’t want to be the fool in my foolproof plan.

My Review

This was my first book by this author, and it absolutely will not be my last. I completely fell in love with this romcom. I read the entire Falling for Summer series, and this one easily became my favorite out of the seven books.

This book is a delightful mix of romance tropes done in a fresh and playful way, with a vibe that feels like a reverse How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Add in a close-knit friend group you wish you could join, a dreamy island setting, and Jane Hayes, a certified hopeless romantic determined to find her happily ever after, and you have a story that is pure summer magic.

I adored the fictional island created for this series. It has that cozy small-town feel paired with sun-soaked beach vibes, and the included map in the ebook made the setting even more immersive. It truly felt like a place I wanted to escape to. The romance itself is a perfectly paced slow burn, and the clever use of familiar romance tropes kept me fully invested from beginning to end.

Jane is such a lovable main character. She is bright, optimistic, and deeply believes in love. Her glass-half-full outlook made her incredibly relatable, and I loved how fiercely she cared about her island, her friends, and her family. She brings so much warmth to the story.

Walker is everything you want in a romantic lead. He is charming, flirty, and layered, with his own struggles to work through. His more guarded, glass-half-empty perspective made him the perfect contrast to Jane, and their dynamic was so satisfying to watch unfold. The chemistry between them is intense, their banter is sharp and fun, and their shared history adds so much depth and emotion. The tension had me on edge in the best way, and the payoff was absolutely worth it.

The humor throughout the book genuinely made me laugh out loud, and the emotional beats brought just the right amount of angst. I also loved the sports romance element. Walker is a professional golfer recovering from an injury and fighting his way back to the game, and the golf scenes were such a fun and unique addition. You do not see golf featured often in romance, and it added a refreshing twist.

If you love best friend’s brother, childhood friends, slight enemies-to-lovers, sports romance, and cozy small-town summer vibes, this book is a must-read. While it is part of the Falling for Summer series, it works perfectly as a standalone. That said, reading the full series makes the experience even richer since all the stories are interconnected and take place along the same timeline.

Highly recommend this one if you are craving a swoony, funny, and feel-good summer romance.
