Summary

Falling for Beau Palmer would be the ultimate crime.

Wild horses couldn’t drag me back to the small island where I grew up, but you know what can? Making sure the Palmer family—aka the worst neighbors ever—show appropriate respect to the newest resident of their retirement center: my grandma.

But as soon as Grams moves in, her shenanigans put her at risk of being kicked out. Since she’s set on staying in Sunset Harbor until her last breath and there’s no way I’m staying on this nightmare island to take care of her, that’s not an option.

Enter Beau Palmer, the infuriatingly charming local cop who’s got the connections to keep Grams right where she needs to be and help me get out of Dodge sooner. But he’s got a price, and it requires putting the Sawyer/Palmer drama firmly in the past.

But the drama isn’t behind us. In fact, it’s right in front of me, wearing a police badge and a smirk that’s really started disturbing my peace.

My Review

This was my first time reading this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this charming family rivals-to-more romcom set on a fictional island. Like the other books in this summer romance series, it’s completely clean, with no language and no spice. I also listened to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed the narrator.

Gemma arrives on the island to help her grandmother move out of her longtime home and into a retirement community. With the house needing to be prepared for sale, she has plenty on her plate. Complicating matters is the longstanding feud between her family and the Palmers, who just so happen to live next door.

Beau was the absolute highlight of this book. He’s a part-time police officer hoping to earn a full-time position, and he may just be one of the sweetest heroes I’ve read in a while. Kind, generous, dependable, and always willing to help others, Beau was impossible not to love. He’s the perfect cinnamon roll hero with a protective streak and a genuinely good heart.

Gemma wasn’t my favorite heroine in the series, and it took me a while to warm up to her. At first, I found her somewhat immature, whiny, and occasionally irritating. However, as the story progressed, she began to grow on me. I appreciated seeing her character develop, and I liked the partnership that formed between her and Beau. As a PR professional, she helps him improve his chances of earning a promotion, while he assists her with preparing her grandmother’s house for sale.

The chemistry between Beau and Gemma was undeniable. I loved the family feud element and the playful rivalry that fueled many of their interactions. Their teasing, witty banter, and reluctant attraction added plenty of humor and charm to the story. While they may have considered themselves enemies, it was clear from the beginning that there was much more going on beneath the surface.

That said, Gemma’s grandmother completely stole the show. She was feisty, snarky, hilarious, and full of personality. Every scene she appeared in brought a smile to my face. I loved her interactions with the other characters and can only hope I’m half as spunky when I reach her age.

Overall, this was another delightful summer island romance filled with swoony moments, fun adventures, lovable golden retriever energy, and plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes. If you’re looking for a clean, feel-good romance with a charming hero and entertaining family dynamics, I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Though this is part of the Falling for Summer series, each book can be read as a standalone. It’s even better, though, if you’ve read the previous books in the series, as all the books are interconnected and share a similar timeline.
