As I reflect on 2025 and start looking ahead to 2026, I find myself craving a calmer and more thoughtful approach to reading. Not bigger goals or longer lists, just books that truly matter to me in the season I am in. This is now the second year I have recorded a podcast episode like this, and it has quickly become one of my favorite reading traditions.
This past year has reminded me that reading plans are always a little fluid, especially for a mood reader like me. I set a goal of 12 books and ended up reading only five. That might sound like falling short, but it actually taught me something important. I do not want reading to feel rushed or forced. If I am not in the right headspace for a book, I am okay letting it wait. Some stories simply ask for a different moment.
Going into 2026, I am being even more intentional with my book choices. Again, twelve books will be chosen for me to read next year. A goal that feels supportive rather than demanding. There are always new releases catching my eye, recommendations from BookTubers I trust, and authors I am excited to try, but instead of endlessly reshuffling my TBR, I wanted to do something a little different.
Once again, I handed the decision-making over to my husband, Ryan. He chose my 12 priority books for the year, and I honestly love how this takes the pressure off me while adding an element of surprise. It turned into such a fun and light-hearted conversation for the podcast, and I cannot wait to see how these picks shape my reading life as I move through 2026.
