Mid-Year Freak-Out Book Tag

If you hang out in the online book world and follow readers on social media, you’ve probably come across tons of videos and posts featuring the mid-year freak-out book tag. It’s super popular among book reviewers and creators, and for good reason. These videos are always so entertaining and end up being some of my favorites each year.

I had such a great time doing this tag the last two years that I decided to bring it back again. It’s quickly becoming a yearly tradition for me. I’ll answer the same questions that I did last year. For this episode, I’m focusing only on books I’ve read so far this year—from January through June. Enjoy!

Best Books of 2025 So Far:

I don’t want to spoil anything for my end-of-the-year stats, so I’m going to name a few favorites so far this year in my favorite genres. All of these books, I’ve rated five stars.

The Fur Trader’s Lady by Gabrielle Meyer

Favorite New Author (Debut or New to Me):

New-to-me authors that I’ve really enjoyed reading are India Holton, Kortney Keisel, Pepper Basham, and Kara Isaac. I definitely have my eye on all these ladies and want to read more from them.

Do You Think You’ll Reach Your Reading Goal or Will You Change It?

Honestly, I’m a little worried that I might not hit my goal of 175 titles, unless I start reading some short middle grades, novellas, short stories, and/or graphic novels.

Any New Goals for the Rest of the Year?

Here are a few things that I want to work on in the second half of the year:

• Take better notes as I’m reading a book so I can write better reviews
• Write the review as close to finishing the book as possible instead of waiting so long
• Focus more on my 12 in 2025 book list
• Read more NetGalley ARCs (and not request so many)
• Don’t burn myself out by getting so many books via the library app
