12 Witchy & Paranormal Cozy Fantasy Books for Halloween | October 2026 TBR Book List

Get cozy this Halloween with a reading list full of magical fantasy, cute witches, and sweet paranormal romance, perfect for Spooky Season.

Welcome, my sweet book friends!

If you’d prefer to listen to this book list, you can check out the full episode on The Bookmarks ‘n Blankets Podcast on your favorite podcast platform or listen below.

I invite you over to X (aka Twitter), Facebook, or Instagram to let me know what you thought of any of the books on my list, what you’re reading this Halloween season, or what new releases you are excited to read. I would love to engage with you!

******************

Spooky Season is finally here, and I could not be more excited! October is one of my favorite months for reading because you can take your TBR in so many different directions. You can reach for chilling horror, twisty thrillers, atmospheric mysteries, Gothic fantasy, Halloween romance, or something a little more magical.

This year, I’m choosing cozy fantasy.

Last Halloween was one of my best reading seasons ever, and a big reason was that I leaned heavily into cozy fantasy. Instead of reaching for truly scary books, I spent the month reading about witches, magic, small towns, paranormal creatures, and sweet romances with just enough spooky atmosphere to make them perfect for October.

Apparently, I’m still very much in that mood.

For my October TBR, I’ve put together 12 witchy and paranormal cozy fantasy books I’m hoping to read throughout the month. My list includes witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, paranormal romance, and plenty of magic. I want books that give me all the Halloween vibes without keeping me awake at night.

I’m also celebrating the season with my Halloween Book Bingo Reading Challenge! If you’re looking for a fun way to choose your October reads, come join me. The bingo board is filled with Halloween-inspired prompts featuring everything from witches and vampires to haunted houses, ghosts, black cats, and more. You can make the challenge as relaxed or ambitious as you want and use it to add a little extra fun to your spooky season reading.

And because books are even better with the right soundtrack, I’ve also created a Halloween playlist on Spotify that you can listen to while reading, decorating, baking, working, or simply enjoying October. It’s a mix of musical genres, but every song has a Halloween or spooky season connection.

Now, grab your favorite fall drink, turn on some Halloween music, and settle in because I have 12 cozy, magical, and delightfully paranormal books on my October TBR!

Book Summary

Sage Hemlock has no interest in embracing her witchy side. Magic has betrayed her before, bringing nothing but heartache, and she will not let something so foolish happen again.

Instead, Sage has thrown herself into her work and studies, running the local museum and largely preferring the company of her library and her cat to other humans. Her one goal is to fly under the coven’s radar so that she can finally shed her blasted powers forever.

But when a strange historical book accidentally triggers a curse, Sage’s quiet, small-town life is suddenly overrun, and magic is running rife. A beanstalk grows in her garden, and her friend and co-worker Casimir starts to look an awful lot like a handsome prince. Fairytales are coming true…

Now, with the threat of the coven on her tail, Sage must confront the magic she’s always denied to solve the mysteries of the book and save everyone she’s come to love from being lost to a fairy tale forever. The question is, can she finally learn to be her own happily ever after?

Evelyn Sharpe is accustomed to dealing with natural disasters as a land witch, but she longs for a life with a little less danger for her and her adopted daughter, Ruby. So when the opportunity to take over as Caretaker of Thornwood House—a sentient home that acts as the magical heart of the village of Iskendra—arises, it seems almost fated.

Book Summary

Eccentric heiress Maida Westabrook treasures her peaceful, “ordinary” life in California—morning strolls along the beach, warm evenings by the fire, and losing herself in her beloved library of myths and legends. Yet Maida can’t shake the nagging feeling that there’s more to her story than she’s been led to believe. Strange and inexplicable occurrences have always surrounded her, dismissed as nothing more than her overactive imagination.

When a distant relative mysteriously vanishes, a body is discovered, and Maida’s lifelong dream of owning an enchanted bookshop suddenly comes true, she realizes her “wild” imagination might not have been so far-fetched after all.

There’s just one the sentient bookshop has gone into hiding, and it’s up to Maida to coax it back. To claim her inheritance, she must step out of her safe, predictable world and embrace a reality where magic is not only real—it’s woven into the very fabric of everyday life. That handsome neighbor? He might be a shapeshifter. And the barista who runs the local café? She’s likely brewing more than coffee.

As Maida unravels the secrets of her past, she’s forced to rethink everything she once held true. Saving the bookshop—and protecting her newfound magical family—will require more courage than she ever thought possible, including risking her heart.

Book Summary

Cliques clash, and sparks fly in this delightfully fast-paced read that’s part fluffy rom-com, part murder mystery with a (literal) witch hunt—the perfect pick for Wednesday fans.

Pretty, popular, and a total witch, Embry Woodcross is the queen bee at Raven’s Head School for the Magically Gifted. Entering senior year as head prefect, Embry is a celebrated fashionista and unrivaled solver of problems big, small, and unattractive. (She’s quite generous with her handcrafted magical beauty products.)

When she meets Oakley Riddle, a clueless transfer student and ultra-rare vampire, Embry’s mission is clear: take the new girl under her wing and make sure she’s not thrown to the (were)wolves. Coven mate Rye Knighton may scoff at Embry’s aggressive benevolence, but Raven’s Head students reward her with love and appreciation…

Until one good deed too many makes Embry the lead suspect in a murder investigation.

Suddenly, the same people who begged Embry for enchanted acne potions are convinced she’s a cold-blooded killer. Apparently, everyone loves a witch until something bad happens, and then it’s all pitchforks and anecdotal evidence. As everything she’s ever done is used against her, Embry teams up with Rye to find the real murderer, clear her name, and maybe fall in love along the way.

But Amelia is shocked to discover the building is full of more than quiet stories and warm cups of tea. There are curious, talkative patrons, a shy, bespectacled head librarian who makes her heart skip a beat, and three quirky spirits causing paranormal havoc that endangers the future of the library.

Book Summary

The first in a delightfully warm, cozy, and romantic new series with a fantasy twist, for fans of the BBC series Ghosts. Can Callie give some needy ghosts their happy-ever-afterlife, while making Rowan Vale her own forever home?

When single mum Callie visits Rowan Vale with her daughter, she is enchanted. The beautiful Cotswold village is run as a living museum, allowing tourists to see history in action. But there’s more to the place than meets the eye…

To the residents’ surprise, Callie is observed talking to several villagers she simply shouldn’t be able to see – as they’re ghosts.

The elderly owner of the village, Sir Lawrence Davenport, then makes an astonishing offer: to sell Callie the whole estate for a tiny sum, if she agrees to protect the village’s present tenants and its headstrong spirits.

With a spectral lord of the manor and his imperious wife, a naughty 1940s schoolgirl and William Shakespeare’s former tutor among them, it seems Callie’s role as owner wouldn’t be easy.

And that’s without the added complication of Sir Lawrence’s disinherited grandson, the gorgeous Brodie.

Rowan Vale and Callie may need each other. But is this a match made in heaven or hell?

Book Summary

Starting over as a house manager in a charming small town sounded perfect. Until my new boss turned out to be a vampire.

After burning myself out in my corporate career, I take a job managing a mansion in a picturesque tourist town to reset my life.

The house is historic. The town is charming. The locals are welcoming. And, as I accidentally discover, my unfairly handsome employer, Beckett Kinge, is a vampire in hiding.

Beckett prefers order, privacy, and absolutely no supernatural mishaps.

Unfortunately for both of us, a rogue vampire is attacking the locals. The same people who have been nothing but nice to me. As attacks escalate and secrets unravel, staying uninvolved is no longer an option.

And somehow the only person who steps up to find the vampire is me—the mansion manager with poor people skills who knows absolutely nothing about supernaturals.

At least… I think I’m the only one working this case. But somewhere between tracking a killer and trying not to die, I realize Beckett isn’t just protecting his secret. He’s protecting me. And that might be far more dangerous for my emotional well-being.

Regardless, the rampaging vamp has to be found, or no one in town will be safe. Not even me.

This standalone cozy urban fantasy story is set in the same world as the Magiford Supernatural City trilogies, but is located in a different (real-life!) town in Wisconsin.

Book Summary

There are two things Ana Sartori knows for certain. She can’t shapeshift into a wolf like her father or his pack. And, despite her being a latent, little more than human, he loves her despite her faults. She’s never going to be an alpha like him, but she can still hold her own in a fight. Not that her life is violent. He makes sure of that. Aside from occasionally wrestling pets into a headlock when it’s time to trim their nails at Gwinnett Street Groomers, Ana leads a simple life.

At least that was the case until someone broke into her pet resort and spa, leaving a mystery dog behind in one of the bougie boarding suites. Not to mention there’s a vampire hiding in the potting shed. A very tall, very handsome vampire. He even smells nice, minus the blood drenching his clothes.

Ana could handle those things, probably, but now there’s a new alpha determined to claim the town—and Ana—as his territory. Either she stands and fights for her home, or she runs to her father with her (metaphorical) tail tucked between her legs. Life is a lot of things, but for Ana, simple isn’t one of them anymore.
